Ali Nejad was born on February 25, 1978, in Tehran, Iran, and later raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, California. From a young age, he developed a fascination with various interests, including television and games, which laid the foundation for his future career in media and poker.

Career

During his high school and college years at UC Berkeley, Nejad began his television career early, hosting and reporting for First Cut, a local NBC affiliate show in the San Francisco Bay Area. Although he initially pursued higher education, he dropped out in 1998 to focus on playing poker professionally. During this period, he worked as a dealer and prop player before becoming a successful high-limit cash game player.

After four years dedicated to poker playing, Nejad returned to television in 2002, hosting an MTV pilot about video games, marking his re-entry into broadcasting. In 2003, aboard the PartyPoker Million cruise, he met Mori Eskandani, a key figure in televised poker production. Eskandani hired Nejad as the master of ceremonies for the Poker Superstars event in 2004, which launched a long-standing partnership. Nejad then became the off-screen announcer for NBC's Poker After Dark and the color commentator for NBC's National Heads-Up Poker Championship. He also worked as a correspondent for ESPN's World Series of Poker coverage and co-commentator for various poker series, including the Ultimate Poker Challenge and the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure.

In 2014, he hosted Alpha 8 for the World Poker Tour (WPT). Nejad has also hosted other shows, such as Road Trip on ESPNU, and served as a fill-in host for UNite on the same network. In May 2014, he joined HLN, hosting The Daily Share, and executive-produced and hosted his own award-nominated show, The Social Life.

He has made several appearances as a poker player on commentators' week on Poker After Dark, demonstrating his skills at the table alongside his broadcasting talents.
