Caesars Palace is between the famous Bellagio and Mirage casinos on the Las Vegas Strip. The Las Vegas airport, the Convention Center, Sands Expo Las Vegas, and the Fashion Show Mall are nearby.
History of Caesars Palace
Caesars Palace founder Jay Sarno, who in 1962 took thirty-five million dollars from the pension fund, developed a draft of the future building and started building a 14-story hotel. Kirk Kerkorian owned the land where the construction began.
Sarno long struggled over the choice of name for a hotel and eventually stopped at Caesars Palace.
He specifically mentioned the word Caesars, and not Caesar's (Caesar), because every guest had to feel like Caesar.
Many companies participated in the hotel's construction, but Sarno developed all sketches independently.
- In August 1966, the Caesars Palace hotel, with 680 rooms, was opened.
- Three years later, the founders of Lum's restaurant chain, Stuart and Clifford Perlman, purchased it.
- In 1975, another building (with sixteen floors) was built.
- In 1992, the shopping center Forum opened there. Later, the Colosseum was built, especially for Celine Dion's performances.
- In August 2005, Augustus (forty-six floors) welcomed the first astonished visitors.
Later, Harrah's Entertainment acquired Caesars Entertainment, Inc., and owned Caesars Palace. In 2009, it was announced that construction of the building Octavius would be frozen due to low demand.
